Trout City in Preston, Minnesota // Photos by Louis Livingston-Garcia A giant trout statue welcomes you to Preston, Minnesota. Downtown, a bicycle rack shaped like the fish jumps out of the sidewalk. The city has dubbed itself “Minnesota’s Trout Capital,” so it’s only natural that its new brewery, opening August 15 next to the National Trout Center, would name itself accordingly— Trout City Brewing —and prominently feature a vibrant rainbow trout in its logo. Longtime Preston residents and Trout City co-owners Anita and Andy Bisek always knew they were going to play off of the trout theme of the city with their brewery. “Preston adopted the National Trout Center concept,” Andy says. “Always been known for trout fishing. People equate Preston as a trout city.” Trout branding isn’t the only way the couple wants to honor Preston. The Biseks bought a 130-year-old former bank downtown in order to remodel it and save a bit of history. After purchasing the building in April of 2018,

Each campers complete One Board Minimalist Chair The Gold Coast Arts Center’s Wood Workshop, a new week-long program offered during the Summer Arts Camp, wrapped up its first session. Campers ages 8 and up had the opportunity to create their own projects, in a safe environment, using raw material. Girls and boys spent a great deal of time working on a one board minimalist chair, which some historians say dates back to the Vikings. Using acrylic or water based paints each camper created his or her own unique piece of furniture. Karen Hubela, instructor of Wood Workshop, explained “the one board minimalist chair gave practical knowledge with a creative aspect. EL DORADO, Ark. – Conifex Timber, one of British Columbia’s biggest forest products companies, announced that it’s curtailing all operations at its El Dorado, Arkansas sawmill. 92 employees will be laid off. The shut down will reduce Conifex’s U.S. South lumber production by around 21 million board feet through 2019. The company will phase the curtailment over 60 days. “We regret this difficult decision; however, lumber prices are simply too modest to justify continued operations at a site that requires further capital expenditures to realize its potential as an efficient, modern mill,” said Ken Shields, Chair and CEO. “While our wish is to restart the mill as soon we can, our immediate priorities are to identity the scope of a Phase two capital investment to help better inform a re-start date.” Six El Dorado workers will be retained to maintain the mill’s equipment in case of a restart. In June, Conifex lowered operations at the mill down to a single shift because of poor m
